New Release From White Bells – Ghost House [EP]

My (internet) friend and sometimes contributor to this site has recently come out with a new EP filled with demos. I have listened to Ghost House several times and say it's his best released music yet. His Bandcamp tags describe the album as alternative, acoustic, emo, folk, and punk which would be accurate representations of the music. If you enjoy any of those genres, give it a listen. At six tracks it is fairly quick listen, but you'll wish it was longer. If you like it, share and follow him on Twitter (@iamwhitebells).

I had a chat with him via email and here are a few "interview-y" questions from that.

How long did you work on this album?
- I started recording demos late last year. I went through a lot of bad ideas but was able to scrape together Reductionist, CO[See his Bandcamp page to listen] by March. I meant to polish and use some of those songs for this EP but ultimately none of them worked.

Did you have any help or did you do everything yourself? I think I heard some violins in there, and probably some other things other than guitar? Did you do those too?
- Haha that's funny because someone else said they heard violin. It's an acoustic & a guitar reverb. I played around with some sounds to accompany the acoustic before I settled on what I did. But yeah it's all me.

What's your favorite song on the album?
- That's tough. I think The Tennis Court Oath would make a really cool full-band song. But standing on their own I couldn't pick one.

What's next for White Bells? Working on new songs, still refining these? Performing live at all?
- I'm going to keep working on songs, & I'll be performing around Boulder in a few months.

Anything else?
- Go Blackhawks.

Thanks for your time!

Song of the [Time frame I'm no longer adhering to]: St. Vincent – Cheerleader

I-I-I-I-I-IIIII just wanted to share this track from St. Vincent's 2011 album, Strange Mercy. I have only just started listen to her but am enjoying it so far. Once again, I'm pretty late to the party. I'm arriving to the party so late it is actually the morning, and the house is a fucking mess, I can hear a girl throwing up somewhere and multiple people should regret things they no longer remember.

St. Vincent came out with a new album this month titled St. Vincent. I have listened to it once and am listening to it again as I write this, so that's a good sign. Check that out if you like this song.

Enjoy, I know I-I-I-I-I-IIIIII did. Although I haven't watched the video, so let me know if that's any good. Thanks.

Song of the Day: Portugal. The Man – “Evil Friends”

Portugal. The Man recently came out with their seventh studio album, Evil Friends. Despite my love of a couple of their albums, I haven't yet fully listened to Evil Friends. I plan to soon though, and you should also do the same because of the half listen I gave it was classic Portugal. The Man.

"Evil Friends", the album titled song has a pretty great video that is shot all in night vision. The snowy-ness, clothes, and hatchets remind me of my days living in the U.P. of Michigan (also some weekends I spent in northern Wisconsin). So if you are from there, you might enjoy it even more. Song is decent and picks up a bit into it. Give it a listen, WOULD YA ALREADY?!

Liked this? Check out another Portugal. The Man song, "So American".

Song of the Day: Pixies – “Debaser”

This song needs no introduction. If you think it does that means you probably haven't listened to it so just stop reading this nonsense and listen to the song. "Debaser" comes off Doolittle, a little late 80's alternative rock album that could. As you can see on its Wikipedia page, it is HIGHLY regarded.

Song of the Day: WhoMadeWho – “The Sun”

A friend recently recommend this track and album to me and I couldn't deny it's funky beat. WhoMadeWho is a Scandinavian indie rock, dance punk band that formed in 2003, so you know they are good. "The Sun" is off their 4th studio album, Brighter. Check them out on your local music listening device, player, etc.
