dazed and confused dvd movie coverDazed and Confused (1993)

Director: Richard Linklater (A Scanner Darkly, The School of Rock)
Writer: Richard Linklater
Starring: Jason London (Out Cold, Jason and the Argonauts, The Rage: Carrie 2), Wiley Wiggins (The Faculty, Waking Life), Matthew McConaughey (Sahara, A Time to Kill, That one awesome chick flick), Ben Affleck (Phantoms, Forces of Nature, Bounce, Daredevil)
Genre: Comedy and Drama, but mostly just 70’s

Why You Should Watch It:
Probably in my top 10 movies of all time, it is also probably in my top five most watched of all time. I remember watching it four times in a row while I was playing online poker one Sunday afternoon. Those were the days. Dazed and Confused follows a group of incoming freshman and Seniors on the last day of school. Great one liners, dickhead Ben Affleck, stoner Matt McConaughey, drugs, alcohol, great music, and it all takes place in one day. You’ll soon wish you were born three decades earlier.

airplane dvd movie box coverAirplane! (1980)

Director: Jim Abrahams (The Naked Gun, Hot Shots!), David Zucker (The Naked Gun, The Naked Gun 2 ½, Naked Gun 33 ⅓), Jerry Zucker (The Naked Gun, Top Secret!, The Naked Gun 2 ½)
Writer: Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker
Starring: Robert Hays (Airplane 2: The Sequel, Iron Man the TV Cartoon), Julie Hagerty (What About Bob?, Airplane 2: The Sequel, She’s the Man), Leslie Nielsen (The Naked Guns), Peter Graves (Mission: Impossible TV Series in the 60’s), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Basketball, Baseketball)
Genre: Comedy, Parody

Why You Should Watch It:
This classic 1980 comedy is routinely in top movies/comedies of all time lists and is a must see for anyone that enjoys comedy. Some great one liners, that I’m sure you’ve heard, “Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.” It’s one of those films where you’ll see or hear something new every time you watch it. It’s chalk full chock-full of subtle and dry hilariousness.

forks over knifes movie posterForks Over Knifes (2011)

Director: Lee Fulkerson (Other TV Documentaries)
Writer: Lee Fulkerson
Starring: Joey Aucoin, Neal Barnard (Super Size Me, Chow Down), Gene Baur
Genre: Documentary

Why You Should Watch It:
Forks Over Knifes examines if eating diary and meat is one of the causes of cancer and heart disease. It makes a compelling case for drinking little to no milk and eating little to no meat. I don’t see myself ever stopping both but I am convinced I should cut back on both. Watching this was more of just a reminder of that fact I quickly like to forget. I find it hard to take documentaries with anything more than just a grain of salt, as you should also, and this one is no different. Still an interesting watch if you are into health, nutrition or just like learning new things.

good will hunting matt damon and robbin williams on dvd movie coverGood Will Hunting (1997)

Director: Gus Van Sant (Milk, Elephant, Finding Forrester)
Writer: Matt Damon (Matt Damon), Ben Affleck (Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
Starring: Matt Damon, Ben Affleck , Robin Williams (RV, Aladdin, Flubber), Minnie Driver (The Riches(TV), Sleepers, Grosse Pointe Blank)
Genre: Drama

Why You Should Watch It:
Do you like apples? If so, this movie is for you. A great cast. Great acting. Good Will Hunting won two Academy Awards, Supporting Actor to Williams and another for Best Original Screenplay to Affleck and Damon. It’s one of those movies where I watch it every time I see it on TV, even if I watched it the day before. That’s OK though because it’s not my fault and I know that.

beer wars dvd box cover artBeer Wars (2009)

Director: Anat Baron
Writer: Anat Baron
Starring: Anat Baron, Roberta Baskin (Frontline: College Inc.), John Boehner (haha Boner)
Genre: Documentary

Why You Should Watch It:
Beer Wars is back on Netflix Instant after a hiatus. If you like beer, specifically micro brewed beer, you’ll like this documentary and if your interested in the business of selling things, you’ll like this documentary. It goes into the stronghold the top “adult beverage” companies hold on the market and how the laws of distribution make it nearly impossible for the small companies to compete fairly. Defiantly an interesting watch and a great fall-Sunday-afternoon-sipping-on-some-nice-tasty-brews film.
