Director: Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland)
Starring: Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), Aziz Ansari (Parks and Rec), Danny McBride (any recent comedic role involving a racist, bigoted redneck) and Nick Swardson (Grandma’s Boy)
Genre: Comedy, Action Adventure
Run Time: 83 minutes
Ratings: IMDB -6.9 /10, Rotten Tomatoes - 44%, Netflix – 3/5
Nick (Eisenberg) is an underachieving pizza delivery boy that find himself in quite the predicament when lowlifes Dwayne (McBride) and Travis (Swardson) strap a bomb to Nick’s chest in an effort to motivate him into robbing a bank. Nick enlists the help of his best friend Chet (Ansari) as they race against the clock in this zany bromedytionature (BOOM, new word). Also, MURDER MITTEN REPRESENT!
The actors pretty much play themselves, which is good if you like their caricatures and not if you don’t. The actual plot of the movie is actually pretty decent as far as comedies go and Fleischer does a good job of keeping the movie flowing. As to be expected with comedies nowadays, it has its share of crude humor but nothing over the top (added bonus, Landon Donovan’s ex-wife shows her boobies). Eisenberg and Ansari play off each other pretty well, particularly in the bank-robbing scene. Michael Peña (Crash) nails being the pimp Latino hitman and Fred Ward (Tremors) is in really fucking good shape for being Dwayne’s 68 years old father.
Like I said, if you normally find the actors in this movie funny then you’ll probably enjoy it. If you don’t like the actors then you should still probably watch it when it comes out on DVD but either way, I wouldn’t spend anymore than the matinee price to see it in theatres. I didn’t really go into the movie with high hopes but I left in high spirits.
