TTMML: Broad City [Comedy Central]

Post by on January 26th 2014

Bored, far from it. Brode, getting there. Brood, not quite. BROAD City. There we go. <--This is dumb, probably should delete.

Broad City is a new Comedy Central half hour comedy, Executive-ly produced by Amy Poehler, and it is hilarious. Now, I'm only basing this off of one episode, but have I ever steered you wrong before? Not that I know of.

Starring and created by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, Broad City follows the life of two women living and working(?) in New York City. The show actually got it's start on Youtube as a web series (you can watch here, https://www.youtube.com/user/BroadCity, watch first episode below.) in 2010, which I have not yet watched, but have added it to my long list of things to watch, read, listen to, etc.

The show is on after Workaholics on Wednesday's at 10:30pm EST. Call your local cable provider to make sure you have Comedy Central.

Caption and RT Contest with @BreakingBadQT

Post by on January 26th 2014

After a successful RT contest on Twitter (Winner!), I decided to to run it again. This time with an accompanying caption contest for a funny Breaking Bad screenshot.

There are essentially two contests, both of which will have one winner. The winners will receive a $25 Amazon Gift card to buy this Breaking Bad shirt.

Click image or Click Here to see the shirt on Amazon.com.

How to Enter Contests:

1. This one is simple. RT this tweet:

2. Write a caption for this image in the comments below. I will choose the caption I like the best. Humor and cleverness will go a long way.

You can enter both, but only once for each contest.

I will DM the winner of the RT contest via Twitter to get their email address and will have the winner of the caption contest email 20SomethingAwesome [at] gmail [dot] com. I will then email them the Gift Card code from Amazon so they can get their shirt!

Both contests end on January 30th (Thursday) at 11:59pm EST.

Good Luck!!!

Note: You obviously can use that $25 for whatever you'd like, if you have other needs that are more important than a Breaking Bad shirt.

New on Netflix Instant Streaming: August 2013

Post by on August 2nd 2013

August has begun which means, at minimum, two things: The summer is very close to peaking and Netflix has added new movies to their streaming service.

I wanted to get this up ASAP so there is currently no Why You Should Watch It for each movie. These may or may not be added throughout the next week. EDIT: I will be adding them but they will be short and sweet.

The Breakfast Club (1985)

Director: John Hughes
Writer: John Hughes
Starring: Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Paul Gleason, Anthony Michael hall, Ally Sheedy
Genre: Comedy, High School, Drama
R

Why You Should Watch It: An 80's John Hughes movie, if you haven't seen it already, just watch it. If you have seen it, you understand why. A high school classic.

.
days of thunder poster cruise red

Days of Thunder (1990)

Director: Tony Scott
Writer: Robert Towne, Tom Cruise
Starring: Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid
Genre: Action, Drama, Romance
PG-13

Why You Should Watch It: T. Cruise pre-crazy. Wait, was there actually a pre-crazy Tom Cruise? Maybe not. Either way, it's a quality drama. I believe it was the first time I heard "fuck" in a movie.

.
titanic dvd cover sinking ship atlanic leo

Titanic (1997)

Director: James Cameron
Writer: James Cameron
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Bill Paxton
Genre: Drama, Romance, The High Seas
PG-13

Why You Should Watch It: "Jack, I want you to draw me like one of your French girls." It may be a a little heavy on the romance side, but damn if I don't enjoy this Cameron masterpiece.

.
zodiac dvd cover poster murder mass

Zodiac (2007)

Director: David Fincher
Writer: James Vanderbilt, Robert Graysmith
Starring: Jake Gyllenhall, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards
Genre: Crime, Drama, Mystery
R

Why You Should Watch It: Have not yet watch but a movie directed by David Fincher is bound to have some redeemable qualities.

Song of the Week/New on Netflix Instant Streaming: Regina Spektor – “You’ve Got Time”/Orange Is the New Black

Post by on July 28th 2013

This turned more into a New On Netflix Instant post than Song of the Week so it will just be both. Listen to the song and watch the show!

Orange Is The New Black netflix original

Orange Is the New Black (2013)

Creator: Jenji Kohan
Starring: Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Michael Harney, Michelle Hurst, Jason Biggs, Pablo Schreiber, Kate Mulgrew
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Prison
Episodes: 13 (1 Season)
TV-MA

This is the theme song from a great new Netflix Instant Exclusive, Orange is the New Black. The show is about the life of a woman who spent 1.5 years in a New England prison. It's a hilarious show with some real characters. It's light-hearted enough but it hits on many themes such has race, socioeconomic status, LGBT issues and the powerful/powerless dynamic. It's well acted and has great subplots that weave together nicely. It's a must watch if you have Netflix.

During the first episode I said aloud, “why is this opening sequence so damn long?!” By the second episode I was enamored with the theme song “You've Got Time” by Regina Spektor. It's a powerful song that is catchy as hell. If it's not stuck in your head after your second listen, you are soulless. Despite that I really have trouble watching the screen during the song. There is something about close up mouths and eyes that I find almost disgusting. It's far to intimate for me. I understand it from cinematography/music video point of view, but that's a music video I'd only ever want to watch once and for only about 15 seconds. Do see the video I speak of, you'll have to watch the show!

Anyways rock out to this Regina Spektor jam.
